With event until Thursday, 15, Expo Ceará Química talks about the qualification of the workforce for the sector to gain strength in the North and Northeast

You may not realize it, but the chemical industry is part of your daily life. The chemical, pharmaceutical, mattress and plastic material industries, in addition to insulating products, surround us. And with the new coronavirus pandemic, it has become even more important. Who hasn't rushed to supermarkets and pharmacies to buy alcohol gels and antiseptics, for example? There was what we call economic boomo (for the production of some items).

“The chemical sector was determined to be essential, mainly with cosmetics, soaps and antiseptics. Other sectors, such as plastics, were at a standstill, only selling the stock they had ”, evaluated the president of Sindiquímica-Ceará, Marcos Soares.

According to Soares, although some markets have faced a lack of inputs, such as the box and plastic packaging sector, with the local industry sourcing from others in the North and Northeast, “we already feel that several sectors have started to resume, like that of chemicals, which was affected more here [in Ceará] because there was a stoppage in civil construction ”- mainly because the paint factory has a leading role in the state.

Soares states that some measures were taken to keep the economy stable: functions of administrative areas migrated to the home office work system and the production line adapted to the indications of the biosafety protocols, released by the state government, “in order to avoid contamination employees ”.

Expo Ceará Química

As one of the measures to boost the sector after the peak of the pandemic, Sindiquímica, associated with the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (Fiec), in partnership with the Orbitar Institute, held the third edition of Expo Química online. “Focused on the qualification of the industrialist, the workforce of the personal hygiene, cosmetics and sanitizing industries. Because of the decree, we are doing it online, ”said the union president. "We are further qualifying the industries so that it has a strength in the North and Northeast", continued.

The event continues until Thursday, 15, and has a partnership with the Brazilian Association of the Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics Industry (Abihpec) and with the Brazilian Association of Industries of Hygiene, Cleaning and Sanitizing Products for Home Use and Use Professional (Abipla).

At the opening of the exhibition, the president of Fiec, Ricardo Cavalcante, stressed the importance of the industry in facing the pandemic period. ““ We are going through a very difficult year. The industry as a whole and the chemical sector in particular were instrumental in tackling the pandemic. We managed to unite all businessmen in the sector with the government to show the work capacity that our industries have and that, for us, was very important ”, he told the Federation portal.

The president of Abihpec, João Carlos Basílio, also emphasized at the beginning of the event the directions the sector took after the pandemic, and made a comparison with the moment before the advance of the virus. “In the past, we were seen as a superfluous industry. At the beginning of the pandemic, we were considered an essential service. So, that changed. Our factories have not stopped. The entire chain was focused on the essentiality of our products. We had the challenge of alcohol gel. Before the pandemic, this production represented 0,5% of the sector's revenue. There was a lack of raw materials, packaging and there was a need to streamline the process. But, in less than 50 days, the Brazilian market was filled with gel alcohol ”.
